Neil R Shapiro serves as the technical coordinator for PEP. He is president of Scilab Inc., a software technology research and development company. His areas of research and expertise include full-text retrieval technologies, user interface technology, and software quality assurance. Before founding Scilab Inc., Neil worked at GE’s prestigious Corporate Research and Development Center in Niskayuna, NY, where he developed the Structured Full-Text Query language (SFQL) and did leading-edge research and designs for client-server hypermedia systems for expert systems.Neil has been instrumental in designing the current PEP DVD and PEP Web user interfaces and engineering the XML based work flow of the PEP data. He continues to research and develop automated methods to add intelligent links and leverage untagged information in the data to provide new scholarly features for the PEP system.
Neil received his BA at Indiana University, and his Masters and PhD at the State University of New York.
