Dr. Andrew Gerber is the medical director/CEO at the Austen Riggs Center.  Prior to coming to Riggs, he served as the director of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Research Program at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. He is the director of research at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research and an associate clinical professor of psychiatry in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center. He is also the co-director of the Sackler Parent-Infant Program at the Sackler Institute for Developmental Psychobiology at Columbia University. He completed his medical and psychiatric training at Harvard Medical School, Cambridge Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College – Payne Whitney Clinic, where he served as chief resident; his child psychiatry training at the combined Columbia-Cornell NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital program where he was also chief resident.

Dr. Gerber earned a PhD in psychology at University College London, where he studied with Peter Fonagy, PhD, and Joseph Sandler, PhD, investigating the process and outcome of psychotherapy in young adults. Dr. Gerber’s published scholarship shows his deep passion for research.  While in New York, he also had a private psychoanalytic practice.
